FMProC Study Guide
Everything you need to know about the Family Medicine Professional Choices (FMProC) test, how we score it on our platform, and strategies for success.
The FMProC is a Situational Judgment Test (SJT) used across Canada to help select applicants for Family Medicine residency positions. But don't worry—this isn't about memorizing clinical facts. Instead, FMProC focuses on how you think, how you respond to real-life challenges, and how well you align with the values of Canadian Family Medicine.
🧠 What the FMProC Actually Tests
The FMProC gives you 25–30 workplace-based scenarios, similar to what a Family Medicine resident might face. You'll be asked to rate or rank different response options based on what you would do in that situation. Your responses are scored against a professional benchmark—not based on opinion, but on what's been determined as most appropriate by experienced physicians and educators.
✅ Key Competencies Measured:
- Empathy & Compassion
- Adaptability
- Teamwork & Collaboration
- Professional Integrity
These are core non-clinical skills that matter in Family Medicine—especially in a Canadian context where patients are diverse, communities vary widely, and adaptability is key.
🌍 Built with Inclusivity in Mind
One of the strengths of the FMProC is its intentional design to be fair and inclusive. Its development involved collaboration with many diverse groups to ensure that no applicant group is unfairly disadvantaged by the content or structure of the test.
